21 January - Eni signs a Memorandum of Understanding with CNPC/PetroChina.
28 April – Eni and Sonatrach sign a cooperation agreement for the development of non-conventional hydrocarbons, in particular shale gas, in Algeria.
April – Eni makes an important discovery of hydrocarbons in the Norwegian Barents Sea.
May – The EST project at the Sannazzaro de’ Burgondi refinery starts up.
13 June – A new era for the Italian chemicals industry begins with the creation, in record time, of a joint venture between Polimeri Europa (Eni) and Novamont.
June – Eni signs a Memorandum of Understanding with PetroSA, the state-owned oil company of the Republic of South Africa.
July – A significant new hydrocarbons discovery by Eni is made in offshore Ghana, with the Gye Nyame 1 well off the coast of Ghana.
October - Eni announces the discovery of a giant natural gas field in the exploration prospect Mamba South 1, in Area 4 of offshore Mozambique. With a potential of some 637.5 billion cubic metres, this is the biggest discovery ever made by Eni as an operator.
November - Eni announces the acquisition of a 32.5% stake in the Evans Shoal gas field in the Timor Sea, in Australia.
