January - Eni begins production at the reservoirs of the Benguela-Belize-Lobito-Tomboco (BBLT) project, located in deep waters in the Angolan offshore.
March - Eni secures an offshore area in the north of Mozambique, around 2,000 kilometres north of the capital Maputo.
29 April – The centenary of the birth of Enrico Mattei, Eni’s founder.
May – The results of the first quarter of 2006 show that Eni was the best performer, among the major oil companies, in terms of the organic growth of hydrocarbon production.
September – Eni signs a Shareholders Agreement in Abuja with its partners partner NNPC, ConocoPhillips and Total, for the creation of a coastal terminal for the export of crude oil at Brass.
October - Eni discovers new gas reserves gas with the “Longhorn North” exploration well in US deep waters in the Gulf of Mexico.
November - Eni begins its first exploration campaign in Alaska resulting in the drilling, during winter, of 3 new wells in the onshore Rock Flour area.
December - Eni is awarded the S-M-857 exploration block, in the Brazilian offshore.
