January – Eni became part of the Galp corporation, Petròleos e gas de Portugal (now called Galp Energia), operating in the supply, transportation and distribution of natural gas to the Iberian market and to other Portuguese-speaking countries of interest to both parties, such as Brazil.
February – Eni concluded an agreement with Shell Brasil to purchase Lesh Sa., the owner of 287 petrol stations and 6 oil deposits in the states of Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiàs and Tocantins.
March – Eni acquired a stake in the United States company ChemConnect, the world market leader in on-line chemical products.
May – Eni intensified its presence in Argentina with the purchase of the controlling share in Distribuidora de Gas Cuyana Sa., for the Mendoza area, and a stake in Distribuidora de Gas del Centro, for the Cordoba area.
May – Eni won the tender in Greece for the privatisation of the natural gas secondary distribution company Epa of Salonica and Tessaglia.
May – Eni purchased British-Borneo, which had upstream reserves mainly in the British part of the North Sea and in the deep-water area of the Gulf of Mexico.
18 October – Eni signed an agreement with Oao Gazprom for the project to connect the Yamal-Europa gas pipeline to Slovakia.
November – Rete Gas Italia Spa was set up for the transportation, despatching and regasification of gas on the Italian primary network.
