1996 – Eni puts its face forward.Back to the timeline
15 April – Eni’s Board of Directors put forward a proposal to merge Agip Spa in Eni Spa, with the aim of directly controlling the majority of shares in all the Group companies involved in the sector.
April – The stake in the share capital of Agip Servizi Spa was disposed of. The company operated in the sector concerned with the supply of heating plant, fuel and maintenance and administrative services.
May – Asap merged into Confindustria.
17 June – Eni and Libyan state-owned oil company NOC signed an addendum to the exploration and production agreement of 1974.
30 July – Eni purchased Sun Oil Britain Ltd, which owned exploration area in the British part of the North Sea.July – The first Eni Environmental Report was published, designed for use both inside and outside the Group.
Eni became the scientific and technological partner of Fabbrica di San Pietro, in the Vatican, for the restoration and conservation of the cathedral.
Eni constructed two gasification plants, at the ISAB refinery at Priolo and the Saras refinery on Sardinia, that utilise the residue from refineries and combined-cycle cogeneration.
