April – Following the signing of an agreement between Snam and a Libyan company, Brega, liquefied natural gas imports began arriving in Italy for the Panigaglia regasification plant.
May – Eni signed a twenty-year agreement with the USSR for importing additional quantities of natural gas.
27 July – Eniricerche Spa was set up, for carrying out research in to subjects of interest to the Group.
November – In Holland Eni International Holding BV is set up, the leading company of the Tradinvest Bank and Trust Co. of Nassau, for the reorganisation of the Group’s foreign companies.
Agip signed an agreement with Libya for exploiting the Bouri oil field, situated in the Mediterranean.
Agip discovered important deposits in the Congo, Egypt, Libya, Great Britain (North Sea) and the United States (Gulf of Mexico).
In Valle Padana in Italy, oil was discovered at a depth of 6,000 metres at the “Villafortuna 1” well, in the province of Novara.
