26 February – A technical-scientific collaboration agreement was signed in Moscow between Eni and the USSR scientific and technical state committee.
24 April - An association contract was signed between Erap (Entreprise de recherches et d'activités pétrolières) and Agip for the hydrocarbon exploration in the Congo.
5 May - Snam Progetti, in a consortium with Cimi (Italian industrial assembly company) the Iri group and Esso Standard Libya, signed an agreement for the construction of a natural gas liquefaction plant at Marsa el Brega.
10 May – An agreement was signed in Tripoli between Agip and Lipetco (the Libyan General Petroleum Corporation), for setting up joint mining operations.
14 August - Agip Recherches Congo SA was set up in Brazzaville for the exploration and marketing of liquid and gas hydrocarbons.
1 September - Saipem Spa was set up.
31 October - Azienda Metanodotti P Spa was incorporated into Snam.
