14 March – Petrosomala, a petroleum products distribution company, was set up in Mogadishu.
27 April – The Anic complex in Ravenna was inaugurated.
May – Agip Nucleare and the British company, Nuclear Power Plant Co., signed an agreement for technical collaboration in the nuclear energy sector.
21 July – Metano Correggio was set up for the urban distribution of natural gas.
26 July - Somip, the Italian-Moroccan oil company, was set up in Rabat for the exploration and production of hydrocarbons in Morocco.
9 September - Sarn, the Novara refining company, was set up for refining and marketing oil and animal and vegetable fats.
25 October - Agip began providing plane-refuelling services at Italian airports.
20 November - The first brick was laid for the nuclear power station in Latina.
14-26 December – Mattei travelled to China and the USSR.
Eni drew up plans for the construction of a network of oil deposits and road-side petrol stations in Libya, Eritrea, Ethiopia and Somalia.
