January – Nuovo Pignone, operating in the mechanics and foundry sectors and comprising Agip, Agip Mineraria and Snam, was set up in order to take over and run the Pignone complexes in Florence and Massa.
Agip Mineraria discovered important gas deposits at Porto Corsini (Ravenna).
The Cortemaggiore-Genoa natural gas pipeline entered service.
30 March - Eni acquired a 51.025% stake in Anic.
June – Agip Super, a new type of petrol, and Energol oil, both produced by the British Petroleum Company, joint-owners together with Anic of Irom (Industria Raffinazione Oli Minerali – mineral oil refining industry), went on sale.
June – Twelve natural gas accumulations discovered on the Padana Plain and two in Sicily.
22 December – Eni’s statute was approved by Presidential Decree 1523.
